Respect

As probably all of you know, Paris suffered a tragedy yesterday.  It is so sad and so awful that things like this happen.  I hope that everyone over there is doing as well as they possible could be after something like this.

This has gotten me thinking about how we view other people.  So often we make jokes about people of a different ethnicity, religion, age, whatever it may be.  Even though a lot of them are meant to be harmless, they still show disrespect toward whoever they are about.  I know that I am not blameless when it comes to these types of jokes (in fact I think my last one was a dumb joke about the French), but it is something that I want to work on to improve.  To make less of these types of jokes, no matter how harmless they appear.

  1. I think for the most part that is true- our humor shouldn't be at the expense of others, but I also think theres a balance we need between taking things too lightly and too seriously. Like dumb blonde jokes are fantastic and i see nothing wrong with them as long as we arnt using them to actually put down blondes

  2. It is sad what happened, especially when you think about the individual lives that are affected. It is awesome that you are taking it to heart and deciding to change for the better because of it though. Often, when we are down grading someone, it isn't even funny, it just makes an awkward situation, I think that is a great goal to have!

  3. I always like to make jokes about the French too. It's a hard balance to find, but I know we can do it!
